Kelvy’s 5k Run/1 Mile Walk is coming to The Plains, Virginia on Saturday September 27, 2014. The 5k will begin at 9:05 am with the 1 mile walk and a 1 mile fun run immediately following at 9:10 am. The race features chip timing.
Location: Wakefield School campus and the town of The Plains, Virginia; 4439 Old Tavern Road, The Plains, VA 20198
Race Day Information: Packet pick up will take place the morning of the race from 8:00-9:00 am. Opening ceremony will be at 9:00.
Registration Fee: 5k Walk & Run: $20 per participant prior to race day. $25 on race day.
1 Mile Fun Run: $15 per participant prior to race day. $20 on race day.
Awards: There will be awards in the 5k for Age Group winners in the following categories: under 7, 8-12, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 & Over. Fun Run Awards will be given to the first two finishers.
Course: The course is USATF-certified. It begins and ends at picturesque Wakefield School, traveling through the historic town of The Plains, looping down scenic Hopewell Road and finishing on the challenging uphill incline of Headache Hill.
Costumes are ENCOURAGED!!! Compete against Mayor Gurtler for the prize for best costume!!!
Kelvy’s Run is held in memory of McKelvy Costin, Wakefield’s former athletic director. We honor Kelvy’s ideals and sportsmanship by directing all proceeds from this event to the school’s financial aid program. 25% of students at Wakefield School receive financial aid with the average award being approximately $9,000. Incorporated in Wakefield’s mission of academic excellence, is the commitment to support as many students and their families who will embrace our ambitious vision to develop capable, ethical, and articulate citizens as possible. Proceeds from Kelvy’s 5K Run enhance our ability to make this exceptional educational opportunity broadly available to our community.
