Register for the 2013 Run for HOPE 5k

Come out and support the HOPE Association’s 1st annual Run for HOPE 5K and fun run for children with cancer and blood disorders. This promises to be a day filled with laughter and competition as we come together to provide a better future for children in need of healing. The event will provide support for specialized hospital staff to help kids with cancer and blood disorders navigate the journey from pediatric care to adult care.

WHERE:The Run for HOPE 5k starts and finishes on the USATF certified Marymount challenge course in Ballston, VA: 1000 N. Glebe Rd, Arlington, VA. See course map

WHEN: Saturday, June 22, 2013  5k – 10 a.m.    1/2 mile fun run/walk- 11:00 a.m.

PACKET PICKUP: Friday, June 21 @ Potomac River Running store, Arlington, 5:00-7:30 p.m.: 4501 N. Fairfax Dr, Arlington, VA 22203, 571-482-7604. Packet pick up will also be available race day starting at 8:30 am.  Registration is currently closed. No race day registration will be available.

SWAG: All pre-registered runners will receive a Run for HOPE 5k Nike Dri-Fit short-sleeve T-shirt. SHIRTS ARE NOT GUARANTEED FOR ANY REGISTRATIONS AFTER WEDNESDAY JUNE 12.

KIDS FUN RUN: There will be a FREE short (1/2 mile) kids fun run at 11:00 a.m. Registration for the kids fun run will take place that morning near the finish line.

AFTER-PARTY:After the race, come join us for a free BBQ/picnic in celebration at the Bluemont picnic shelter, conveniently located in the Ballston area, within walking distance from the race. There will be free food, gifts from sponsors, and music and fun for the whole family. So it’s ok to hurry to finish the race, but don’t hurry after so you don’t miss out on all the fun.

BENEFICIARIES: Children’s National Medical Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders is a vibrant and multifaceted unit of Children’s National Medical Center located in Northern Virginia. The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorder’s team is committed to giving all who are entrusted to its care, the very best care it can. For many this means curing a devastating disease. In the last few years, the team has begun curing patients with sickle cell disease, thalassemia, immunologic disorders, and metabolic diseases. The center’s specialists have contributed to increased cure rates for numerous childhood cancers and other diseases and are dedicated to expanding the number of diseases that can be cured.

Our specific event will help provide support for specialized Oncology staff to help kids with cancer and blood disorders navigate the journey from pediatric care to adult care. Your contribution and sponsorship will ensure that children stricken with cancer will be provided the care they need to smoothly transition into adult care without losing much needed care and attention.

The HOPE Association is a not-for-profit organization that was founded in 2012 out of the need to extend the reach and influence of the local church to the DC Metro area by moving outside of the church walls to touch lives in the community. The HOPE Association strives to meet people where they are at and minister to their needs, whether it be spiritual, physical, emotional, or relational. Our goal is to be a genuine blessing for the community around us and a provide a place of healing for all those who are in pain.

STROLLER FRIENDLY: This race is stroller friendly (including the fun run, too). 

AWARDS: There will be awards to the top 2 overall male and female finishers in the 5k. In addition the top male and female 14 & Under will also be awarded.

RESULTS: The 5k race will be electronically timed using the IPICO tag system. The fun run/walk is untimed.

PHOTOS: FREE high resolution race photos will be available for download from the HOPE Association’s  website following the race. Keep an eye out for our on course/finish line photographer and be prepared to strike a pose! We will send an email notifying you when the pictures are ready to be shared.

*Please note: You must pick up your packet at one of the designated times. Packets will not be mailed or reserved for a participant after the race. In addition, awards must be claimed within two weeks of the conclusion of a race.
