FCPA Take 12 Program Information

We care about our community!  We have made several upgrades to our race, in an effort to conserve resources and to pay it forward.  A few changes that we have made for 2015 include:

  •          A portion of the proceeds from the Healthy Strides Community 5k/10k will help fund summer camp opportunities for children living in homeless shelters and transitional housing in Fairfax County.
  •          We will be participating in the Nike Reuse-a-Shoe Program.  Bring your old, worn-out athletic shoes to the Health Expo or on race day.   Nike Reuse-a-Shoe will grind them down to create a new material called Nike Grind, which is used to make high-quality sports surfaces including courts, turf fields, tracks and more.  Nike will accept any brand of shoe.
  •          We will cut down on paper waste with “virtual race bags”, so that you can access coupons and flyers online.  You will still get a great reusable bag, but it will only be filled with goodies!
  •          Your timing sensor will be attached to your biodegradable bib!
  •          Our comfy tech tees are locally made in Fairfax, VA!

Don’t forget your camera so that you can use our new “Selfie Station”!  You can take a selfie in front of our special race banner, or one of our green-shirted volunteers or race staff members would love to take one for you!  We’d love for you to share your pics with us on our Facebook page!

If you have any questions about this event, or would like information about how to become one of our event sponsors, please contact the Race Director, Julie Frederickson at Julie.frederickson@fairfaxcounty.gov.

The park roads will reopen either when the last runner finishes or 9am (whichever comes first).  If a runner will need to leave the park prior to 9am they should let the front gate staff know so they can direct the runner to park in the ice cream parlor lot.  For the safety of other runners, drivers will not be permitted to leave the other parking lots during the race.  We encourage all runners to enjoy the award ceremony, prize drawings, and post-race refreshments, while cheering on their fellow runners.
